As the New Year approaches, commercial fishermen have good news to share with everyone who is concerned about America’s supply of sustainable seafood. West Coast groundfish populations — dozens of rockfish, sole and cod species — are more abundant today than they have been for decades.
This didn’t happen by accident. Fishermen and marine biologists, coupled with high level research found ways to bolster stocks of rockfish and other species that are making a comeback.
