CITY OF NEWPORT
ANNOUNCES VACANCIES ON THE
PARKS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE AND
THE WAYFINDING COMMITTEE
The City of Newport is seeking applications from citizens interested in serving on the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Wayfinding Committee.
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee is responsible for making recommendations to the City Council concerning parks, recreation center, recreation programs, and swimming pool. Recommendations may include the acquisition, development, use, operation, and disposition of parks, facilities, rules, regulations, programming, and periodically updating the city’s tree plan. This Committee meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday of the month.
The Wayfinding Committee is responsible for collaborating with staff to recommend, create, oversee, and review a directional sign system for residents and visitors to major public areas, destinations, and places in the city or other nearby destinations; working with staff to promote the use of banners and other decorations to identify districts, places of interest, and arts, sports, and other public events; coordinating with staff on the implementation of wayfinding plans and goals adopted by the City Council; recommending policies governing the wayfinding signage; and reviewing and reporting to the City Council on matters referred to it by the Council.
Anyone interested in serving on these committees should apply using the city’s committee application that is found on the city website at www.newportoregon.gov; click on “City;” then on “Committees;” and then on “Application for Committee/Commission.” The completed form can be submitted electronically. Paper copies of the committee application form can also be obtained by contacting Peggy Hawker, at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by telephone at 541.574.0613. The application deadline is January 5, 2018.
It is anticipated that the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee and the Wayfinding Committee will interview interested volunteers during January of 2018, and forward a recommendation to the Mayor for formal appointment at a subsequent City Council meeting.
