Students, staff and Lincoln County families:
Unbelievably, winter break starts Friday, December 15, and we will welcome the start of a new year together on January 2. We have had a busy year and the time has flown by quickly. During the first section of the school year we have acquired two properties for future school use. We are in high gear in our search for a new superintendent, we have hosted district-wide community focus groups and have compiled a survey of desired qualifications as well as established a salary range for a new leader for the district.
I’ve had the privilege to observe a number of staff and student accomplishments on the state and national level. One of our teachers, Fawn Custer, has been honored as Oregon Substitute Teacher of the Year and another, Alexandra Browne, has been chosen as VFW Teacher of the Year. Meanwhile Daniel Mock and Ken Martin from Taft High School were named 2017-2018 Civic Scholars by Representative David Gomberg for House District 10 and our Newport High School soccer team players are OSAA champions for the 2nd year in a row!
I feel we have the best group of educators in the state and that is cause for celebration! As we begin the holiday season, I encourage you to reflect on these accomplishments as well as the people who are truly important in our lives. It is good for all of us to take a step back, put things in perspective, and appreciate our blessings.
Holidays can also be a stressful time for many and I hope you all will take a moment to reflect and do what you can to support others in need. My wife Dani and I wish you and your family a great winter break and a happy new year. This is also a busy travel time, so please be safe and take care of yourselves, your family and friends. We will see you in 2018!
Warm Regards, Tom
