It takes a community to sustain a local public radio station. KYAQ 91.7 FM invites the community to a fundraiser designed to bring the station’s rent up-to-date and to begin the new year with a clean, clear signal for future broadcast success.
At Cafe Mundo in Nye Beach, Newport on Sunday, December 10, from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. join KYAQ while celebrating this past year’s achievement serving as Lincoln County’s one-and-only public radio station.
A $15.00 donation at the door for this evening will present a dinner buffet prepared by Gilbert Schramm, who also hosts a weekly program, co-presented with Dr. Franki-Trujillo Dalby titled “Where We Are in the Middle East.”
Musical accompaniment to this event will be offered by June and Joren Rushing, a duet pair out of Depoe Bay, whose voices and guitar-accompanied songbook have graced the clubs and venues of Lincoln County for several years.
Also featured will be Walker T. Ryan, Delta Blues slide guitar player out of Eugene, Oregon. Walker was inspired by the early bluesmen of the time and due to his special talent and feel for the Delta Blues, he gained recognition by opening for such great performers as Taj Mahal, Dave VanRonk, John Sebastian and many, many others.
A raffle for a sculpture titled “Spirit Tree” crafted by the late, local artisan Sam Briseno will round out the evenings’ offerings of local food, music and art. “Spirit Tree” measures 24″ by 35″ by 1/4″ and is suitable for display outdoors or indoors.
