From Sheriff Curtis Landers
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by a concerned citizen who received a phone call from “Dish Network”. The caller representing “Dish” stated they were checking signals and knew the citizens name and that she was a Dish customer. The scammers called from two different numbers. The keen citizen contacted the true Dish company and their fraud department told her they possibly had a data breach on their website. They created her a new account and changed her passwords.
REMEMBER do not give out personal or financial information over the phone. Scammers are getting increasingly sophisticated in methods to convince you to give them your money or personal information. Be alert and protect yourself. If the person on the phone doesn’t sound quite right, hang up and call the company the caller allegedly represents.
