Commercial salmon fishing has been down quite a bit offshore from Central Oregon south into California. Millions of dollars that should have wound up in the pockets of the fishing industry – on the sea and in fish processing plants – is way down. A lot of the blame goes to the giant warm water blob off the Oregon Coast that has persisted over the last year or so. Survival rates for young salmon off the coast have not been good. So the catch is down.
