The Depoe Bay City Council this week approves North Lincoln Sanitary’s request for a 4.9% increase in trash pickup. Reason for the increase is that landfill rates have risen on all trash haulers, repair and maintenance on trucks and disposal machinery and, of course, labor rates have risen a bit. And insurance rates have escalated slightly. So monthly service charges are rising just under five percent.
Depoe Bay is also contemplating buying a large trash compactor so North Lincoln Sanitary doesn’t have to haul away as big a load of city waste – at least size-wize. But city officials say although the compactor can pay for itself in less than ten years, North Lincoln is expected to figure pick-up charges at least partially, on weight.
And the city has offered the City Clerk-Recorder’s job to one of their applicants. And she has accepted the offer. But Mayor Barbara Leff says since nothing official has been signed yet they’ll make the official announcement when she does.
