Norm Halsey with Ebb Tide Arts in Toledo – who created the signs more than 15 years ago – has thoroughly cleaned, repainted and sealed them. They are in storage until summer vacation schedules allow the working team to return the signs to their posts at the eastern and western approaches to Toledo on U.S. 20. We expect the signs to be reposted sometime next week.
The electrical wiring underground work at the west end sign location is complete. Travis Turner with Travis Electric in Toledo will work on the lighting at both sign locations after they have been reposted. The goal is to have the entire project – reposting, electrical, etc. – finished by the Toledo Summer Festival, July 27-30.
The sign restoration project is led by the Toledo Downtown Association and the Toledo Chamber of Commerce and is aided by a $10,000 grant from Lincoln County. The City of Toledo, Port of Toledo and Central Lincoln PUD are the other public partners on the project. Numerous local non-profit, business and civic groups also have endorsed it.
