Bridie’s Irish Faire and the Newport Public Library will co-host a family history workshop featuring genealogist and family historian, Laurence Overmire, author of Digging for Ancestral Gold: The fun and easy way to get started on your genealogy quest at the library on Saturday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. The workshop is a prelude to Bridie’s January 2018 genealogy companion tour, “Irish Roots.”
“Have you ever wanted to be the detective that finds all the clues and solves the crime? Going on the hunt for your ancestors and looking for important clues that lead to their discovery is no less suspenseful and exciting. A lot of people say genealogy is more entertaining than doing a crossword puzzle or watching TV—and it is infinitely more meaningful,” says Overmire.
Overmire has had a multi-faceted career as a genealogist, poet, actor, director, educator and public speaker. He is a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), and he graduated summa cum laude from Muskingum University, B.A., B.S., and the University of Minnesota, M.F.A. He now resides in West Linn, Oregon, with his wife Nancy McDonald.
