Here’s a fun, if not thoughtful opportunity to experience the headwaters of the Salmon River. Chuck Philo will lead a guided naturalist trip along coast range forest and prairie habitats that lead to a beautiful “sphagnum bog” that harbors many unique and special plants seldom encountered.
This long and rigorous hike, scheduled for June 17th, is recommended for experienced and fit hikers only. The hike is at an elevation of 2,700 feet and is 11 miles round-trip on graveled forest roads.
Bring a lunch, extra water and sunscreen. This trip is free and open to everyone.
MEETING LOCATION: Meet June 17th, parking lot of Safeway 5:30 AM 2220 N Coast Hwy, Newport. Carpool to the trailhead – 75 minute drive.
