Lincoln County WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) staff are scheduled to be at the Newport Farmers’ Market Saturday, June 24th and July 22nd to assist clients with the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). In Lincoln City, the WIC staff are scheduled be at the Lincoln City Cultural Center Sunday, June 25th and July 23nd (inside the building). WIC staff will be at each of the market locations from 9:00-12:00.
The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education at no cost to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding post-partum women, and to infants and children up to 5 years of age, who are found to be at nutritional risk.
The WIC & FMNP provides fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC participants, and to expand the awareness, use of, and sales at farmers’ markets. A variety of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs may be purchased with FMNP coupons.
WIC is a public health program designed to improve health outcomes and influence lifetime nutrition and healthy behaviors for nutritionally at-risk young families.
WIC Farmer’s Market Fruit & Veggie Vouchers come in a $20 booklet to qualified clients. WIC recipients may spend their vouchers on fresh fruits and vegetables, from June through October 31, with authorized farmers at farm stands and farmers’ markets.
