The Valley Retriever bus service that runs between Newport and the Valley and then eastward to Bend has been ordered by ODOT to cease operations due to what ODOT described as a number of deficiencies.
ODOT and other transit services are scrambling to figure out what can be done to restore more frequent service from Newport to the Valley and to Bend which had been provided by The Valley Retriever for the better part of 40 years. In the meantime, Lincoln County Transit runs between Newport and Corvallis on a regular schedule, and then north to the Albany Amtrak Station. Then they turn around and head back to Newport.
So for the time being, there is no “straight-across-the-state” bus route between Newport and Bend. There is daily bus service between Eugene and Bend but it’s only one round-trip a day.
