Lincoln County WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) staff are scheduled to be at the Newport Farmers’ Market Saturday, June 24th and July 22nd to assist clients with the Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program for youngsters. In Lincoln City, the WIC staff are scheduled be at the Lincoln City Farmers’ Market Saturday, June 25th and July 23rd.
The WIC Program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education at no cost to low-income pregnant, breastfeeding and non-breastfeeding post-partum women, and to infants and children up to 5 years of age, who are found to be at nutritional risk.
The program provides fresh, unprepared, locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC participants, and to expand the awareness, use of, and sales at farmers’ markets. A variety of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs may be purchased with Farmers Market Nutrition Program coupons.
The Oregon WIC Fruit & Veggie voucher is a monthly benefit that is given to all women and children enrolled in the Oregon WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Program. WIC is a public health program designed to improve health outcomes and encourage lifetime healthy nutrition and health for food at-risk young families.
WIC Fruit & Veggie Vouchers come in $5, $6 and $10 denominations. WIC recipients may spend their vouchers on fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, year-round, with authorized farmers at farm stands and farmers’ markets. (WIC-authorized grocery stores also accept WIC Fruit & Veggie vouchers.)
