Discover how you can protect yourself from the diabetes epidemic.
“One in three American adults has prediabetes, so the need for prevention has never been greater,” says Christine Lacedra, RN and trained lifestyle coach.
People with prediabetes – higher-than-normal blood glucose (sugar) levels – are 5 to 15 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes than those with normal blood glucose levels. In fact, many people with prediabetes can be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes within 5 years.
“if you are overweight, over 45 years and not very physically active, you could have prediabetes and not even know it, that’s why this talk is so important in helping raise the awareness of prediabetes in our community” said Christine Lacedra, who hopes the community will embrace the National Diabetes Prevention Program that is coming to Lincoln County.
Christine Lacedra RN and trained lifestyle coach is partnering with the City of Newport to bring a nationally recognized program that has been proven to stop people with prediabetes from progressing to type 2 diabetes. She will be giving a free presentation at the Center for Health Education (740 SW 9th St. Newport) on Tuesday May 16th at 5:30pm and again on May 23rd at 1:30 pm at the Newport 60+ Activity Center.
Participants will discover if they are at risk for developing type 2 diabetes and what they can do about it. She will also be talking about “The PreventT2 Program” a proven approach to preventing or delaying the onset of type 2 diabetes through modest lifestyle changes made with the support of a coach and one’s peers.
This presentation is free to all ages. For more information, or to register, please call Christine 541-272-0124
