OCCC Mascot Logo Contest
College invites community members to submit artwork
Last year, Oregon Coast Community College debuted its new mascot, Waverly the Shark. Waverly has since enjoyed meeting fans at parades and other community events, but lacks the stylized logo enjoyed by many other mascots across the state. “When we see the familiar beaver head logo, Benny the Beaver and OSU immediately come to mind. We’re looking for something similar for Waverly,” said Lucinda Taylor, Director of Advancement and Waverly’s manager. “The trick is to find a design that is unique, easily identifiable as Waverly, and will work just as well on a billboard as it will on a sweatshirt or pennant.”
To that end, the College is sponsoring an art contest to gather design concepts for the new shark logo. In addition to bragging rights and an uncommon line on their resume, the creator of the selected artwork will receive a $100 prize as well as apparel branded with the new shark logo.
To submit your artwork for consideration, email a digital file to: Lucinda.email@example.com. If you need help turning your original artwork into a digital file, please contact Lucinda for additional information. All submissions are due by 5pm on May 31, 2017. Please consider the following criteria in creating your proposed design:
• Logo should be submitted approx.. 2000×2000 pixel image (Logo need not be square or circular; pixel size is a target size for emailed entries)
• The logo will be used online, in print, on merchandise and to create stickers.
• Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as color.
• The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing.
Submissions will be posted on the OCCC Facebook page in early June and the community will have an opportunity to provide feedback on their favorite image(s). The final selection will be made by the OCCC marketing team.
OCCC will continue using the familiar O with waves image as the official College logo and will use the new shark logo on apparel and other swag.
