How do we know that marijuana is mostly good or mostly bad? It’s a pretty broad question that should be answered. But that’s a hard thing to do, because it would take a lot of reputable scientific inquiry.
But the thing is federal law still classifies marijuana as an illegal drug – ranking it right up there with heroin. But when the federal government says it’s bad, they don’t have the research to prove it. Likewise, when the burgeoning medical and recreational marijuana industries say it’s not harmful, they don’t have the research to prove it either.
But slowly researchers are coming up with some indications of just how good or bad marijuana is for our nation. Here’s a story on how that research is moving forward – albeit with fits and starts – but at least it’s forward.
The story’s in The Oregonian.
