Newport Police say law enforcement determined that the description given to 9-1-1 may not have exactly matched the person they saw on the bridge so they continued to search. A Lincoln County Sheriff’s marine boat search the area under the bridge and to the east since the tide was coming in at that time. The Coast Guard launched a boat and summoned their Newport-based helicopter. The surface search continued for a couple of hours – the helo for about an hour with no sign of anyone in the water. Search efforts were then called off.
