A fire broke out at 428 SE Inlet Thursday night in Lincoln City. The home, just off southeast 3rd, and east of Highway 101 created a large fireball and took a while to contain. One elderly male was rescued from the home and was quickly taken to North Lincoln Hospital. His wife was also rescued out the back side of the upstairs. Her rescuers were a North Lincoln Firefighter and a Lincoln City Police Officer. The police officer suffered some smoke inhalation during the rescue. One other firefighter suffered an injured arm while fighting the blaze. A downstairs renter made it out okay.
The house, valued at somewhere around a quarter million, was a total loss. The state fire marshal was out examining the site which triggered additional investigations by another fire marshal with expertise in detecting arson.
The Red Cross responded and arranged for the couple to have a place to stay for the next few nights while they figure out what to do next. Again, the house was totaled.
Cause of the fire was not immediately announced.
