Siletz resident and youth sports coach Willie Worman and his neighbors rolled up their sleeves quite a while back and began cleaning up what they called out of control drugs and burglaries in and around Siletz.
Worman, who works at Georgia Pacific just down the road pulled his neighbors together and began giving the sheriff’s office lots of information about what was going on. The sheriff’s office did what they could but they were spread too thin relative to the rest of the county.
So, Worman and his neighbors took it up a notch and pushed for a property tax override on the ballot which the voters of the Siletz area passed. Now Siletz has a lot more law enforcement patrolling because they’ve been able to hire more patrol deputies.
This week at the Siletz City Council meeting, the Council awarded the Mayors plaque of appreciation to Willie Worman and his band of true believers that got the job done – improving the safety and livability of their hometown.
Congratulations all around not only for what Willie Worman and his Neighborhood Watch group accomplished, but for what they continue to do – acting as the eyes and ears for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies, all of which is returning Siletz to the beautiful and friendly little town it was always meant to be.
