Lincoln County 9-1-1 and the Northern Area Command of the Oregon State Police, received information on a driving complaint of a white Jeep Liberty driving erratically westbound on U.S. Highway 20 about twenty miles east of Newport. OSP said the Jeep was traveling at a high rate of speed and was not staying in its lane – in fact it nearly crashed on multiple occasions by leaving the paved portion of the roadway, almost striking guardrails, and driving over the center line.
Newport Police Officers located the vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop at the Shell gas station. The female and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Jennifer Anne Smith, age 34 of Beaverton, Oregon. Officers said Smith displayed several signs of impairment. They said there was evidence of both recent alcohol and cannabis consumption.
Smith was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of Intoxicants. She was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail with her bail amount was set at $15,000.
