OSP Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a car vs. motorcycle crash on Highway 101 just north of Florence Wednesday morning.
Preliminary investigation revealed a 1984 Honda motorcycle was traveling northbound on Highway 101 at a high rate of speed, had no headlight was illegally using the center turn lane to pass other vehicles just prior to the crash. Meanwhile, a Hyundai sedan was traveling westbound on Sutton Lake Road when it came to a stop and then turned south onto Highway 101. At that moment visibility was limited by heavy rain.
As the sedan pulled out onto the highway the speeding motorcycle hit the car, killing the rider, Ryan Petersman of Laramie, Wyoming. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured. She was identified as Blaine L Kahle, age 28, of Florence.
No word yet of whether the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet or if a follow-up autopsy will be performed to check for any sign of drug or alcohol intoxication being involved in the crash.
