Lively debate expected as political candidates sell their vision of the future of Lincoln County and of Lincoln City in particular
It may prove to be the ole “hot time in the old tonight,” as candidates running for office give their best pitch to win the votes of the citizens of Lincoln City. The forum is expected to be lively as there are strong under-currents surrounding issues like the growth of short-term vacation rentals. Allegations have been made that the VRD growth has hurt and continues to harm low to middle income families and individuals who have increasingly been priced out of the market by the scarcity of affordable housing. However, VRD supporters contend that Lincoln City’s tourism economy is what holds the town together while also acknowledging that something must be done to provide more affordable housing, around which there has been much talk but little construction. In fact, it’s been pretty much the case all around the state.
Not only will city council candidates be pushing their agendas, state wide office holders will be on hand like those running for the State House of Representatives and the Senate.
The event will be held at Chinook Winds Casino Resort which is helping to sponsor the event along with the Lincoln City Chamber of Commerce and the Confederated Tribes of the Siletz Indians.
The evening event begins with a reception and social hour at 5:30pm with the forum starting promptly at 6:30.
And to help ensure as many Lincoln City area residents get the benefit of the debate, The News Guard newspaper is broadcasting the event live on the internet over their website TheNewsGuard.com. But for those who won’t be able to see it live, be advised the the News Guard will be offering replays of the debates on their website after the forum is over. Watch it at “TheNewsGuard.com.”
