The High Wind Watch issued overnight has been upgraded to a High Wind Warning by the National Weather Service (meaning these strong winds are imminent). The warning is in effect from 2:00pm Thursday to midnight Thursday night. Winds rapidly increasing early Thursday afternoon on the Central Coast spreading north through rest of the day. Coastal headlands and open beaches will see south winds 40-50 mph with gusts 65 to 80 mph. Coastal communities and sheltered areas should expect south winds 25-45 mph with gusts 55 to 65 mph. Peak winds between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Impacts include sporadic power outages and downed tree limbs and possible trees. Tree debris on roads may hinder travel. High profile vehicles should avoid travel late in the afternoon into the early evening. Outlook for Friday and Saturday: another round of winds albeit not as strong is likely on Friday, but then a very strong storm on Saturday could bring stronger and potentially more damaging winds.
