In the words of the National Weather Service, this Saturday, the Ides of October, we may see a storm of “historic potential.” High winds, very large surf and several inches of rain are predicted to impact the Central Coast beginning Thursday. A High Wind Watch has already been issued for sustained winds of 25-35 mph gusting 65-75 mph Thursday afternoon and again Saturday afternoon, with the prospect of even stronger gusts. Along with that, surf may reach 30 feet by Saturday creating dangerous conditions on our beaches. With high tides of 9 feet around noon on Saturday, beach erosion is also a distinct possibility. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updated details tomorrow morning with the return of our daily Weather or Not column.
