Stephen Wayne Tow
January 21, 1947 – October 3, 2016
Stephen Wayne Tow, 69 of Newport, passed away at his home Monday, October 3, after a battle with cancer. Steve was born January 21, 1947 to Keith B. Tow and Ruby M. Knaupp Tow in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Steve lived in Iowa for 2 years before moving to Monmouth, Oregon. He grew up outside of Monmouth on a dairy farm. At the age of 9 Steve made a commitment to devote his life to his Christian faith.
Steve graduated from Central High School in Independence, Oregon in 1965. Steve married his high school sweetheart Eloise Hildebrand in Dallas, Oregon December 17, 1966. Their marriage was blessed with three wonderful children, and 9 grandchildren. He loved being involved in their lives and watching all their activities during their growing up years. They brought so much joy and laughter into his life. Steve’s faith and his family meant everything to him.
Steve graduated with a bachelors degree in Education in 1969, and received his Masters degree in 1976 from Western Oregon State College. After graduation, became a school counselor at Newport Middle School in Newport where he helped guide young lives for 31 years until his retirement in 1999.
Steve loved the outdoors and spent many hours fishing, hunting, and camping with his family. He also enjoyed attending sports events at Newport High School where he helped broadcast Cubs sporting events over KNPT radio. Steve was a member of the Newport Church of the Nazarene.
Steve is survived by his wife Eloise of 49 years, children: Dan Tow of Sweet Home, Julie Edmondson of Gresham, and Jason Tow of Janesville, CA. His nine grandchildren: Justin, Ally and Casey Tow. Tyler, Cole, Kylie and Kennedy Edmondson, Troy and Blake Tow.
He was preceded in death by his parents Keith and Ruby Tow, and two brothers Allen Tow and Jim Tow.
A service will be held to remember Steve’s life Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene in Newport, Oregon.
