Gerald Stanley, candidate for Mayor of Yachats
Thank you for offering me this opportunity.
I have been a citizen of Yachats for twelve years and have a deep love for and interest in my town. I have had a lot of experience in facilitating and managing groups (I presently chair the Lincoln County Mental Health Advisory Committee and the Lincoln Community Health Council), I look forward to enabling the Citizens of Yachats as we set out to assess the present and plan the future of our wonderful village.
By Citizens of Yachats, I mean not only those of us IN the city limits who have the responsibility of voting, but also the many in the environs whose lives and emotional attachments have for many years and now continue to be centered on the place they consider their home.
As with any change of administration, the Citizens will have the opportunity to take up the question of where we go from here. I hope we all engage in an open dialog and promote a respectful support of one another, even when there might be disagreements. The one I issue I hope to champion is the critical need to study the questions of affordable (workforce) housing and homelessness. Throughout our entire Nation, this critical question is drawing together people who represent various economic and political viewpoints. Yachats’ response to the Lincoln County Ten-Year Housing study has already shown great commitment and successful results. I look forward to a productive experience for us all.
