Hello, I’m Riley Hoagland and I’m running for City Council Ward #2. Having City Council represent the population, it’s important to address each issue from all angles. I’m running to be a voice for those that aren’t and haven’t been represented on City Council. There hasn’t been to my knowledge a Latino elected in Lincoln City and it’s been a few years since a younger demographic has been on City Council.
I have had a desire to help since high school when I travelled to Mexico and helped build a home for a family in Tijuana. In community college, I volunteered for an at-risk afterschool program. I’m a survivor of high school homelessness that I was able to achieve through self-determination and the support of my community. I graduated from Purdue University Calumet with a bachelor’s in International Studies.
I fell in love with Lincoln City the first time I visited. I see the love in the eyes of the long time residents who tell me stories of what the city used to be. The newly arrived neighbors see the beauty as I did 9 years ago. This is where I want my children to grow up and be proud, like I am that I call Lincoln City my home. We have so many talented, intelligent people here. It’s time we come together to rebuild this great city. Vote for me, Riley Hoagland – Ward 2.
