Lincoln City Police are still trying to track down two men who fled a car after it crashed early Saturday morning near SW Coast and Canyon Drive. Up until the crash the car, with three people aboard, was fleeing police after an officer tried to pull it over on a traffic violation near the Lincoln City Outlets. Instead of yielding, the Honda Accord took off at a high rate of speed.
Officer Spano gave chase and a pursuit was initiated. Other officers joined in as the vehicle proceeded north on Highway 101 at speeds in excess of 80 mph and then down side streets at speeds of 60-70 mph. The vehicle eventually crashed while attempting to negotiate a corner on the wet roadway, near SW Coast Ave, at Canyon Drive Park.
Two males, the driver and the front seat passenger, ran from the vehicle, leaving behind two female passengers. The females were interviewed and it was determined they were unwilling participants in the vehicle elude. They were later released.
A search of the area was made launched with assistance from a Lincoln County Sheriffs Deputy and K9, Bonnie. Despite an exhaustive search of the heavily wooded area the two subjects are still unaccounted for.
The vehicle, which had switched license plates, was later confirmed to be stolen out of Salem.
The driver of the vehicle has been tentatively identifed by officers, but his name is not being released at this time.
