3pm – Report of a chimney fire at 9226 No. Siletz Highway. North Lincoln Fire is enroute to the scene.
3:04pm – Chimney fire spreading to the roof.
3:05pm – Depoe Bay Fire has been activated – They’re enroute with a water tender.
3:08pm – Arriving fire units report smoke coming from the attic area. Difficult access. House is right off the road near the sailboat facility.
3:09pm – Calling for additional firefighters and equipment from Nestucca Fire to assist in fighting the fire.
3:10pm – ODOT notified that Siletz Highway will be obstructed by fire fighting equipment. No word on whether traffic can get through.
3:17pm – Black smoke increasing. Firefighters fear the fire is ready to “vent” which means burning through the roof and gaining more oxygen to rapidly increase the size and strength of the fire.
3:19pm – Firefighters say the fire has not quite made it to the roof itself but it’s getting close.
3:25pm – Four firefighters are going inside with hoses blasting.
3:25pm – Major traffic back up problems on the highway.
3:28pm – Fire command is asking for Sheriff’s Office, OSP and ODOT to shut the highway down upstream and downstream of the fire.
3:30p – Fire is knocked down. But Siletz Highway is a mess. OSP is enroute from Gleneden Beach. ODOT is over an hour away.
3:52pm – Starting to send fire engines back to headquarters
