Back Yard Burning Opens October 1st

Newport Fire Department is opening backyard burning starting Saturday, October 1st for the City of Newport and Newport Rural Fire Protection District. A valid permit is required for open burning. Open burning is the burning of yard debris.

Individuals wishing to burn yard debris (leaves, brush, and other woody debris) must have a valid permit and call the fire station each day they want to burn. Permits are free of charge and may be obtained 7 days a week by dropping by our Main Fire Station located at 245 NW 10th Street in Newport.

Permits are good for whole burn season, which will run from October 1st 2016 till July of 2017.

Permits issued from last burn season (October 2015 through July 216) are no longer valid. People with permits from last burn season will need to come to the station to get a new permit.

Fires for recreational purposes (warming, cooking, etc.) do not require a permit and people who wish to have a recreational fire do not have to call the fire station notify us.

Please contact us at 541-265-9461 if you have any questions, Rob Murphy, Fire Chief Newport Fire Department r.murphy@newportoregon.gov
