Saying you’re sorry won’t work anymore…
For years the Oregon Department of Forestry has been urging the public to closely follow rules during Oregon’s dry season – no open burning, watch your charcoal pits, properly dispose of smoking materials and on and on.
But from the looks of things, either people don’t think it pertains to them or they don’t think anything will happen if they do cause a fire.
Well, the Oregon Department of Forestry is taking it to the next level. ODF has filed civil suits against a couple of accidental fire starters – one whose illegal campfire got away from him while he slept and burned hundreds of acres, and a rancher who rode a riding lawnmower across some of his tinder dry land and caused a fire stretching for thousands of acres and cost millions to fight.
