Newport Safeway: Evacuating the building – Possible natural gas leak
1:36pm – Several Safeway employees began complaining of light-headedness coupled with what may be the signal smell of leaking natural gas. Everyone in the store is evacuating the building and Newport Fire is enroute.
1:41pm – Newport Firefighters are on scene. Building is fully evacuated. Firefighters going inside with meters to ascertain whether there is, in fact, a gas leak.
1:57pm – Abnormal gas levels found in the deli section of the store. Gas to the store is being shut off. Northwest Natural Gas still enroute.
2:02pm – Ventilation of the store is beginning.
