Preeminent geological expert fires both barrels at plans to build new lab and classroom high rise at South Beach
Firing both barrels at OSU President Ed Ray, marine geology Professor Chris Goldfinger has “had it” with any talk of building a high rise education building at South Beach on the Hatfield Marine Science Center Campus.
Professor Goldfinger has often said that based on a pattern of empirical historical data as to the intervals of a huge subduction zone earthquake, “This thing could happen in our lifetime.” Those were Professor Goldfinger’s exact words to a Coast Guard hearing panel on whether a liquid natural gas terminal should be built on the shoreline of Coos Bay.
This week, Professor Goldfinger criticized President Ray in that he (Ray) would put OSU marine science students and faculty directly in the path of a towering tsunami, despite the building being “tsunami resistent.”
