Lincoln County’s Rescue Rope Team is enroute to a report of a logging accident near Eddyville. The logging operation is up Deer Creek Road off Hwy 20.
Reports say the logger took a fall down a 450 foot mountainside. At the bottom he suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung. Because the local air ambulance REACH could not get to the injured logger rescuers called in the Coast Guard. A Coast Guard Helo lowered a guardsman who got the logger onto a litter and he was hoisted up to the chopper.
12:07pm – Injured logger has been lifted up into a Coast Guard Rescue Helo which is now enroute to PCH in Newport. There is some debate going on as to whether he ought to go to the trauma unit in Corvallis. PCH’s trauma handling capabilities are far less than facilities in Corvallis.
12:10pm – The Coast Guard has been asked to fly the logger to Good Samaritan Trauma Center in Corvallis.
12:14pm – The Coast Guard says it will none-the-less fly the logger to PCH helo pad in Newport and then the REACH helo will pick the logger up at the PCH helo pad and fly him to Corvallis trauma unit.
12:19pm – Apparently the Coast Guard was low on fuel so they couldn’t make it to Corvallis. They had been hovering over the area for the better part of two hours as rescuers tried to get to the victim.
