One of the Redmond/Bend lifelines to the Willamette Valley will be shut down for TWO MONTHS starting in ten days. ODOT is CLOSING DOWN HIGHWAY 20 FROM SWEET HOME TO THE SANTIAM JUNCTION!
ODOT says its back was up against the wall on repairs to the Sheep Creek Bridge. The bridge was built on an active slow-motion slide which has been a chronic headache for ODOT and travelers. So now they’re finishing the bridge replacement job during August and September.
Highway 20 will be closed near Sweet Home to eastbound traffic and at Santiam Junction for westbound traffic.
Fortunately there are reasonably short detours. You can use Highway 126 and state Highway 22 as alternate routes. Highway 126 for folks going to and from the Eugene area. Highway 22 for those who don’t mind driving through Salem to get to and from Redmond/Bend.
