PANEL TO DISCUSS PANHANDLING AT UPCOMING LUNCH FORUM
The Lincoln City Chamber will present a panel to discuss the panhandling situation in Lincoln City. There has been increased panhandling in Lincoln City to such an extent that it has even been brought up in front of the Lincoln City City Council – saying it’s begging on the street which is illegal and creates a negative impression of Lincoln City which depends on tourism for much of its economy.
Recent federal court and U.S. Supreme Court decisions on the subject appear to strike down outright bans on panhandling, calling panhandling free speech. Yet many cities continue to ban panhandling or severely restrict where it can be expressed. Usual locations where panhandling is banned is outside restaurants, near ATM machines, banks, parking meters and schools.
The luncheon is at the Side Door Café/Eden Hall in Gleneden Beach, 6675 Gleneden Beach Loop Road. Lunch begins at 11:45am and will cost $12.50. Sponsoring the luncheon is the Charlotte Lehto Insurance Agency.
The public is always invited to attend Chamber Lunch Forums and should RSVP to the Chamber by calling or emailing the Chamber by 5pm Friday, July 22nd.
