Monday afternoon a Newport Police Officer observed Riley John Trivett, age 19, of South Beach, operating a vehicle in the Nye Beach area. After confirming Trivett did not have valid driving privileges, the Officer took enforcement action. Trivett was spotted entering the Newport Performing Arts Center parking lot, where he stopped his vehicle near the Pirate Park.
As additional Newport Police Officers arrived on scene, they observed a passenger, later identified as Austin Robert Lancaster, age 23 of Siletz. The two Officers approaching Trivett’s vehicle from either side could see that Trivett was holding drug paraphernalia, and appeared to be in the process of consuming narcotics.
Despite the presence of several police vehicles and lights, Trivett had not noticed the Officers until they had given him commands to stop what they were doing. Trivett tried to conceal the drugs and paraphrenalia by throwing them towards his passenger. Officers observed the passenger had concealed, under his leg, a small plastic baggy containing a white powdery substance.
Trivett and Lancaster were detained while the vehicle was searched. The searched yielded a quantity of drugs, packaging material, digital scales, a large sum of US currency, and drug use devices.
Both Trivett and Lancaster were arrested at the scene and transported to the Lincoln County Jail. They were lodged on the following charges: Trivett: Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance– Methamphetamine; two counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance–Heroin; Unlawful Manufacture of Controlled Substance– Heroin; Unlawful Delivery of Controlled Substance–Heroin Lancaster: Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance- Methamphetamine.
