Report of a fire at Burger King in Newport. Fire Rescue enroute. Along with an ambulance. Dark smoke coming from a roof vent. Building is partially evacuated.
Reports from the scene indicate that the deep fryers caught fire.
Newport Fire’s high ladder truck has been summoned to the scene.
The fryers are still burning.
Fire Chief Rob Murphy has summoned an additional fire truck from Depoe Bay and Toledo. Seal Rock has volunteered an engineer.
Firefighters are turning off the power and natural gas to the restaurant.
Fire’s out. Restaurant is shut down according to the fire chief. Chief Murphy said although the hood fire extinguishing equipment worked, the fire erupted behind the fryer assembly which was out of range of the fire extinguisher sprayers. He added that a lack of proper maintenance was the root cause of the fire.
Fire crews and apparatus are returning to their stations.
