Waldport trash collection rates going up 10%, a ballot issue for marijuana sales tax and things still up in the air over possible brew pub
Waldport City Councilors have joined with most other cities and counties in the state in seeking voter approval to tax retail marijuana sales…in the case of Waldport, 3%…which is the rate most common around Oregon. The issue will show up on the November ballot.
The council also approved an extension of Waldport’s contract with the county sheriff’s office to provide enhanced law enforcement within the city limits. Normally the sheriff’s department covers all areas of the county except within cities. But by virtue of a contract with city money attached, the sheriff’s office will continue to provide 80 hours of supplemental patrol, civil, criminal and traffic enforcement services within the city limits of Waldport. They will also continue to use the southeast corner of City Hall as their office.
And finally some entrepreneurial types have approached the city to take over the old public works property just southeast of the old high school off Lint Slough. The main idea is a brew pub on top of the bank with a kayak or paddle boat concession on the water. There was some back and forth about what kind of zoning the property should be changed to in order to accommodate that. But no decisions were made. To be continued, as they say.
