June is PTSD (PostTraumatic Stress Syndrome) Month. In recognition of the impact of PTSD in women’s lives, the Central Oregon Coast Chapter of the National Organization for Women (NOW) will be hosting a discussion of “Women and Trauma” at its June 28 meeting. It will be an open discussion about the impact of traumatic events on women’s lives.
The discussion will be led by Joanne Kittel and Sheila Swinford. Kittel is a retired psychiatric social worker who specialized in the field of trauma, working separately with victims and perpetrators; she has been a community leader in treatment and services for battered women. Swinford is a retired mental health counselor and formerly the leader of a State Certified Outpatient Mental Health Agency; she has done extensive volunteer work in trauma treatment and services.
Anyone interested in the topic of “Women and Trauma” or in the National Organization for Women (NOW) is invited to the meeting. It will be held on Tuesday, June 28 at 6 pm at the Central Lincoln PUD Meeting Room, 2129 N Coast Highway, Newport, OR 97365.
