On Tuesday, June 7, at 10:00am, the City of Newport will conduct an evacuation drill of all city buildings. Everyone in a city building, at that time, will be required to evacuate their building.
At 10:00 A.M., on June 7, an announcement will be made that an evacuation drill has started. Staff and visitors will evacuate the building and proceed to an assembly area that has been designated for each building. Once all staff and visitors have been accounted for, they will be allowed to re-enter the buildings.
Last year, the city conducted its first ever city-wide evacuation drill with great success. This year, staff plans to build on that success by further preparing for a city-wide disaster. Employees become prepared by participating in training activities such as this drill. This year, the evacuation drill will be held in conjunction with a statewide Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake/Tsunami exercise called Cascadia Rising. Besides this evacuation drill, the city will be participating in a county-wide tabletop exercise.
