Very early this morning Lincoln City Police were dispatched to the area of Highway 101 and NW 12th street on a report of a male subject armed with a handgun and a AR15 type assault rifle. The victim advised the subject pointed both weapons at he and his friend and then left northbound on Highway 101 in a vehicle.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle and were preparing for a high risk traffic stop once the vehicle left the populated area. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 35 year old Eugene resident Eric Brandin Read, turned off of Highway 101 at NW 34th street. Officers attempted a high risk stop and Read attempted to drive away, but eventually stopped in the middle of Highway 101 at NE 34th street. Read was taken into custody without incident. Located inside of Reads’ vehicle was a .45 caliber handgun and an AR15 rifle, as well as ammunition for both weapons.
Further investigation revealed that Read was in the parking lot of a church at the corner of NW 12th and Highway 101 doing “cookies” in his vehicle. He was confronted by the victim and asked to stop. Read pulled out the handgun and threatened to shoot the victim and his friend. Read then pulled out the AR15 rifle and pointed it at the victim and his friend and threatened to shoot them. At this time it is believed that no shots were fired and there were no injuries.
Read was arrested and charged with: DUII, Menacing, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Pointing a Fiream at another, Carrying a Concealed weapon and Reckless Endangering. He was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail in lieu of $350,000 bail.
