Message from Newport City Hall:
Newport Public Works announces the testing of water line pressure. Beginning 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, the City’s Water Distribution Division will begin mandatory testing of water line pressures in the area of Samaritan Pacific Communities Hospital. Customers in those areas, especially south of the hospital, will probably experience some “brown water” for several hours. The color is due to a harmless sediment that normally lies dormant in the water mains, but gets stirred up when large amounts of water are pushed through the lines at higher-than-normal flow rates.
While the water is safe to drink, you may want to stock up on bottled water. Once the testing is completed, you may flush your water lines by opening the cold water taps in your house, and the hose bibs in your yard, for about 15 minutes, or until the water runs clear.
