The Oregon Coast Chamber Music Society will close its 2015-2016 season with internationally acclaimed pianist Alexander Tutunov on Saturday June 4th at 4pm in the ocean-view home of Dick and Laurel Young in Depoe Bay.
The program, Love Is in the Air, will feature a selection of light romantic pieces which will include works by: Liszt, Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev and Chopin. As an appreciated and integral part of the hospitable OCCMS venue, the award-winning Taft High Culinary Club, will prepare and serve light refreshments.
Alexander Tutunov began his successful musical studies and career in Russia where he is still recognized as an exalted virtuoso of the former Soviet Union. He graduated magna cum laude from the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory. Tutunov distinguished himself as the First Prize winner of the Belarusian National Piano Competition and winner of the Russian National Piano Competition. His playing was described as “exhilarating and inspired” and as demonstrating “a unique talent.” In the U.S., the Salt Lake City Tribune exclaimed that he “ignited fireworks with two of Rachmaninoff’s Etude-tableaux” and that he elicited “a contagious intimacy while never losing sight of sweeping climaxes…”
Dr. Tutunov is in constant demand and delights audiences in concert halls around the globe; he also prepares award-winning students as a successful Professor of Piano and Artist in Residence at Southern Oregon University in Ashland. He has performed as a soloist with major orchestras on both radio and television and is frequently asked to serve as a judge for piano competitions. Tutunov’s extensive repertoire includes sonatas, concertos, rhapsodies, and symphonies by at least twenty-one well known classical composers. The History Channel documentary “Russia: Land of Tsars,” featured his recording of the Abeliovich Piano Concerto as part of its Emmy award-winning soundtrack.
