Rising prescription drug costs continue to dominate headlines day after day. And these high costs are increasingly straining the budgets of families in Oregon and across the country.
That’s especially true for seniors in Medicare who are battling serious diseases like cancer or hepatitis C. These diseases require some of the most expensive medicines around.
The most shocking part? A cap for out-of-pocket drug costs exists for most types of health coverage, but not for seniors, not for Medicare Part D.
That’s why I introduced the RxCAP for Seniors Act last month that would end this imbalance and provide Oregon’s seniors with the same protections from high drug costs as everybody else. This is a common-sense idea that staunch defenders of Medicare support.
There’s more work to be done to rein in eye-popping prescription drug prices, but with this bill I want to make it clear that seniors cannot be left holding the bag.
