THE CITY OF NEWPORT
WILL CONDUCT A PUBLIC HEARING MAY 2ND TO SOLICIT COMMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
ON WHETHER THE CITY SHOULD LEVY A TAX ON THE SALES OF RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA.
The City Council of the City of Newport is holding a public hearing on Monday, May 2nd at 6:00 pm at City Hall to solicit comments from citizens on the city considering putting up to a 3% tax on recreational marijuana sales conducted within the city limits. The hearing will be held in the City Council Chambers at Newport City Hall, 169 S Coast Highway.
Oregon has already imposed a 25 percent tax on recreational marijuana sales. The tax will eventually be lowered to 17 percent once the Oregon Liquor Control Commission assumes control over recreational marijuana sales later this year. When the tax falls to 17%, cities and counties would then be authorized to add a maximum of a 3% local tax, boosting the total tax to 20% of the total sales price of marijuana and marijuana infused products being purchased.
Written comments may be submitted at email@example.com, by 4:45 P.M., on Monday, May 2nd.
