From the Annual Altrusa Trivia Bee – Rogue Ales on the Bayfront
An impressive 19 teams made this year’s Altrusa Trivia Bee a competitive and exciting evening, but in the end it was team Big White Ships – comprised of folks from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – that took home top honors on Saturday night.
In its 26th year, the Trivia Bee was once again a great fundraiser for Altrusa and a fun event for the more than 115 participants. NOAA Marine Operations staffers showcased a serious mind for trivia, as another team from the organization, artfully named NOAA Knows, took second place. Third place honors went to Neural Net – a team pulled together by Hatfield Marine Science Center. Finally, fourth place honors veered away from the sciences and turned toward finances with CYA: Cover Your Assets – a team from Oregon Coast Bank.
Thanks to team registrations and generous donations of raffle prizes from local businesses and organizations, the event contributed more than $3,600 to Altrusa’s coffers. The money will be used to support programs that focus on literacy, dental health, scholarships, and the purchase of emergency supplies for kids in area schools.
“We couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome of this year’s Trivia Bee and thank all who participated or donated items. Thanks to them, women and children in Lincoln County will continue to benefit from the work of Altrusa,” said Evelyn Brookhyser, event chairperson.
Brookhyser and her committee offered special thanks to Rogue Ales, who not only donated prizes, but provided the location and the services of the incomparable Mr. Bill as the evening’s emcee and leader. Also contributing major prizes were Newport Marine Discovery Tours, Mo’s Restaurant, and Chalet Restaurant and Bakery.
