Anonymous Donor Again Gives Cash for Groceries
An anonymous donor in Newport is providing $7,500 in JC Market gift cards for groceries to give to Newport area schools to help families in need. JC Market also gave a 10% discount, resulting in $8,250 in gift cards. The cards will be in denominations of $50 and $100, and will be divided by student population percentage between the four schools in Newport.
Each school will have their own method of determining which families will receive the donations, though preference is given to families in extreme poverty and single family households.
This is the second donation this year by the same anonymous donor. It is especially timely given the high number of homeless K-12 students in LCSD (650, the highest number on record). This number does not include homeless children birth to age five.
“Thank you again to our generous anonymous benefactor,” commented Superintendent Steve Boynton. “We are so grateful for this contribution that will benefit those families that need it the most.”
