HULDA KLAGER LILAC GARDENS
The lilacs are in full bloom! The Newport 60+ Adventure Van will be headed to the beautiful Hulda Kalger Lilac Gardens in Woodland, WA on Tuesday, April 19, and return to Newport on Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
In 1905, Hulda began hybridizing lilacs and by 1910 she had created 14 new varieties. By 1920 she had developed so many new varieties that she decided to hold an open house each spring when the lilacs were in full bloom to share her efforts with other lilac enthusiasts.
Take a step back in time when you walk through Hulda’s beautiful Victorian Era Farmhouse that was built in 1889 by her parents, Godfried and Wilhelmina Thiel. Many of the original furnishings and Klager family memorabilia are displayed.
Don’t forget to visit the Potting Shed where you can purchase lilacs of all colors, and the gift shop which features hundreds of new items created especially for the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens by local artisans.
The cost for this trip is $130.00 for a single room and $82.00 to share a double room at the Quality Inn, in Woodland, WA. Before heading back to Newport, enjoy the free continental breakfast.
