The Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble will be presenting a concert Sunday, April 3, at the Performing Arts Center in Newport beginning at 2 PM. The concert will be a benefit for the Lincoln County Habitat for Humanity.

Led by director Lou Invernon, the program will consist of classics – Bach’s Little Fugue in G-Minor –, show tunes – Chicago –, medleys – Louis Armstrong, Gershwin –, tangos, overtures, beguines and more.

The Wind Ensemble is composed of amateur and professional musicians from up and down Oregon’s central coast, from Lincoln City to Florence, who meet weekly during the school year to rehearse for three seasonal concerts given in Yachats, Newport and Florence. Each concert benefits a local charity, this one being for Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County.

Besides local charities, the Wind Ensemble has a commitment to the development of young musicians through its scholarship program. As many band members know, music is a life-long avocation, giving pleasure through the years, and a sound education in the early years provides a firm foundation for the future. Our scholarships are available to students in Lincoln and coastal-Lane county schools and applications should be available from school counselors’ offices.

The Wind Ensemble is a “no-audition” band, and all who have played a wind or percussion instrument are encouraged to join. The band has openings in all sections, but we are particularly looking for percussionists, flute and trumpet players. Everyone is welcome from high school age through senior citizen.

The upcoming concert should be an enjoyable one for all ages. A donation of $10 adult is requested for admission, proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity. Students and children are free. Donations from people wishing to contribute to the scholarship fund will be gratefully accepted. PCWE is a 501©3 organization, and all contributions are tax deductible.
